“God and My Heart”

A Study of the Life of David and How God can Shape the Human Heart

Cascade Covenant Church Sunday Morning Teaching Series: Fall, 2011

In this teaching series we see how God can shape our lives in personal and powerful ways as we look at the life of David. David knew what it was like to live with great spiritual vitality and love for God. David also knew the realities of spiritual discouragement and moral failure. The “Ups and Downs” of David’s life reflect the same challenges and opportunities each of us face today. In this series we will see a pathway of hope for our own heart. As God chose David to be Israel’s king the scriptures says….

”The Lord has sought out a man after his own heart…” (I Samuel 13:14)

This is a series for anyone who wants to explore the bible’s message of hope for the human heart. We will address these and other questions:

  • How does God view people?
  • Who is God and how can He make a difference in my life today?
  • What can I do when I encounter real fear, discouragement, opposition, guilt and failure
  • What does a healthy and intimate friendship look like?
  • Can God change me? Use me? Redeem the damage in my life?

We will be looking at the Bible in I & II Samuel along with selected Psalms throughout this series. You may feel spiritually convinced, curious or confused at this time. Wherever you are in your spiritual journey please join us for this teaching series as CCC Lead Pastor John Jenks shares with us. Here is our schedule:

“In many ways he was a most extraordinary man – intelligent, handsome, and abundantly gifted as a poet, musician, warrior and administrator. David had charisma like no Bible character before him to inspire his people and bring a nation to a pinnacle of strength and glory. Yet, in other ways he was a most ordinary man – often gripped by destructive passion, rocked by family chaos and personal tragedy, and motivated by political expediency. How did this very human man become the perennial hero of God’s chosen people? Why is he the one character in the Bible described as a “man after God’s own heart?”… David’s life offers hope to all of us. It shows how devotion doesn’t mean perfection – that God loves us in spite of our weaknesses, and can do extraordinary things through ordinary men and women whose lives are wholly devoted to Him.” (From Chuck Swindoll in this book, “David: A Man of Passion and Destiny
