Our Beliefs
CCC and Covenant Churches affirm these central beliefs: We believe in the necessity of a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. People can experience this relationship as they yield their life to Christ and trust him as their savior and follow him as their Lord.
We believe that the Bible is God’s message to all people and the only perfect authority for faith, doctrine and conduct. We also believe that the Word of God is “spirit and life” and requires of us a spiritual and living response.
We believe in a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit, who, with the Father and Son, calls the church into being, empowers its ministry, guides its mission, and supplies the resources needed by the Church community to follow Jesus.
We believe in the Church as the community of believers, characterized by mutual participation in and sharing of new life in Christ. Membership in the CCC family is by confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. It is open to all who believe. Uniformity in theological/creedal details is not expected. What is required is that one be “born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3). We believe in a commitment to the whole mission of the church. Mission included evangelism, spiritual formation, and ministries of compassion, mercy & justice. We follow Christ’s two central calls. The Great Commission sends us out into all the owrld to make disciples. The Great Commandment calls us to love the Lord our God and our neighbors as ourselves. We believe in the reality of freedom in Christ. We recognize that differences of opinion exist concerning theological issues, worship styles and sacramental practices. We believe these differences are overcome through sharing a common life in Jesus. We believe that each person is unique and so is their experience in Christ. In Jesus Christ we have freedom, constrained by His Lordship and His Holy Word. In essentials – agreement In the non-essentials – freedom And in all - love. Note: For a more detailed description of the Covenant’s affirmation of “Freedom in Christ” from CCC pastor John Jenks, click here . We also would summarize our beliefs in our affirmation of the truth in the historical "Apostles Creed" of the Church of Jesus Christ: We believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven & earth. We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried... He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead... We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen
